A 1.5-mile hike through the grounds of Historic Camden, which combines peaceful nature trails with immersive Revolutionary War history, will provide an opportunity to explore the landscapes that played a critical role in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution.

As one of South Carolina’s most historically significant Revolutionary War sites, Camden was the location of major military campaigns and the site of the Battle of Camden in 1780, one of the war’s pivotal engagements in the South. Following the hike, the group will learn of the history and use of Indigo, the second most valuable export (behind rice) in the late 1700s, South Carolina’s official color, how it was chosen as the iconic color of the South Carolina flag, and experience the technique of rice paste relief on indigo and dye, creating your own personal flag.
