A scenic hike through Jones Gap State Park leads participants to the breathtaking Rainbow Falls, one of the Upstate’s most beautiful and iconic waterfalls.

Winding alongside the Middle Saluda River through the heart of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, this experience offers the opportunity to explore the region’s rich biodiversity, pristine waterways, and stunning mountain landscapes firsthand.
Electrofishing Demo
Immediately following the hike, biologists with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will lead a live electrofishing demonstration in the river, showcasing an important scientific tool for studying and monitoring fish populations and stream health. Participants will learn about the unique aquatic ecosystems of the Upstate, native fish species found in these waters, and the importance of protecting South Carolina’s mountain rivers and habitats for future generations.

Our Jones Gap hike follows the Middle Saluda Passage of the Palmetto Trail! As South Carolina’s statewide trail system, the Palmetto Trail connects communities, public lands, and some of our state’s most beautiful natural places. We’re proud to spend part of the adventure on this iconic trail and celebrate the organizations and volunteers who help make outdoor exploration possible for all South Carolinians.
