Global Eco Adventures (GEA) will host an In-Stride Brief at Elliott’s Beach, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (MCRDPI), highlighting the ongoing progress and future direction of the Living Shoreline and Smart Reef Program currently underway along the installation’s vulnerable coastal environments.
The briefing will provide program updates focused on shoreline resiliency initiatives at the MCRDPI and other programs throughout the Broad River, Battery Creek, and Port Royal Sound, while emphasizing the importance of collaborative environmental stewardship across South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
The project represents a unique partnership between military leadership, academic institutions, state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and local governments working together to address coastal erosion, habitat degradation, sea level rise, and storm resilience through innovative nature-based infrastructure.
Participants include representatives from Global Eco Adventure (GEA), Coastal Carolina University, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (MCRDPI), the Town of Port Royal, USC-Beaufort, the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs (SCDVA), and the Pritchards Island Research and Living Shoreline Coalition (PIRLS).
