The 2026 SC7 Expedition will conclude with a special closing ceremony aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point, bringing the month-long journey across South Carolina to a powerful and symbolic ending during the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

This special closing ceremony aboard the USS Yorktown is open to the public as a ticketed event, with proceeds supporting preservation, education, and conservation initiatives.
Inspired by the theme “The Road to Yorktown,” the evening will reflect on South Carolina’s critical role in the Revolutionary War and the chain of victories across the state that ultimately led British forces to surrender at Yorktown in 1781.
While the USS Yorktown itself is a World War II-era aircraft carrier rather than a Revolutionary War vessel, hosting the final celebration aboard one of America’s most iconic military ships creates a meaningful bridge between the nation’s past and present, honoring generations of sacrifice, resilience, patriotism, and service.

Set against the backdrop of Charleston Harbor at sunset, the evening will celebrate South Carolina’s history, natural resources, conservation efforts, and civic pride through storytelling, fellowship, and reflection. The event also highlights the important partnership between SCOR and the USS Yorktown to remove hazardous chemicals from aging tanks aboard the ship — a project that not only helped preserve an important piece of American history but also protected the health and ecosystem of Charleston Harbor for future generations. As the SC7 team completes its journey across the state, the closing ceremony will serve as a tribute to the enduring connection between preservation, conservation, and the stories that continue to shape South Carolina and the nation.
