Crystal-Clear Waters, Mountain Views, and One Extraordinary South Carolina Treasure

Created in the early 1970s by Duke Power through the construction of Jocassee Dam as part of a hydroelectric power project, the lake continues to play an important role in renewable energy generation and regional water management.

Surrounded by protected forests and fed by Appalachian Mountain rivers, Lake Jocassee is known for its crystal-clear waters, scenic waterfalls, and remarkable biodiversity. While this portion of the expedition is closed to the public, we encourage everyone to explore and enjoy Lake Jocassee on their own time and experience firsthand one of South Carolina’s greatest natural treasures.
