DESCRIPTION:We’ll explore Congaree National Park, home to the largest intact old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the U.S. Known as the “Redwoods of the East,” the park features towering trees, including a 167-foot loblolly pine, just shy of the tallest tree in the East. Congaree holds the tallest known specimens of 15 tree species, including a 157-foot sweetgum, 154-foot cherrybark oak, and others. With six national and 23 state champion trees, the park averages two champion trees every three square miles, making it remarkable destination for nature lovers and tree enthusiast alike.
